{"id":492051,"date":"2025-12-19T16:22:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T16:22:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/?p=492051"},"modified":"2025-12-19T16:22:52","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T16:22:52","slug":"judge-sides-with-att-in-lawsuit-against-t-mobile-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/operators\/judge-sides-with-att-in-lawsuit-against-t-mobile-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge sides with AT&amp;T in lawsuit against T-Mobile US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A US federal judge sided with AT&amp;T by issuing a temporary restraining order against T-Mobile US to prohibit it from using a scraping tool to collect customers\u2019 personal data to get them to switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge issued her finding yesterday (18 December) in a US federal court&nbsp;which stated T-Mobile\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/operators\/t-mobile-us-targets-slick-phone-switching\/\"><strong>Easy Switch<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;programme \u201caccessed AT&amp;T\u2019s protected computer systems without its authorisation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cT-Mobile\u2019s unauthorised access allowed it to obtain over 100 fields of private customer data from AT&amp;T\u2019s servers for each affected customer and transmit that information back to T-Mobile\u2019s servers in violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Texas Harmful Access by Computer Act, the Comprehensive Computer DataAccess and Fraud Act, and the Georgia Computer Systems Protection Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge noted \u201cAT&amp;T has and will incur immediate, irreparable harm if a temporary restraining order is not issued\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T-Mobile deployed a beta version of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/operators\/t-mobile-us-targets-slick-phone-switching\/\"><strong>Easy Switch<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;at the Formula 1 Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix on 20 November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Easy Switch is an AI tool which analyses current AT&amp;T or Verizon accounts before recommending optimal T-Mobile plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AT&amp;T sought a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobileworldlive.com\/att\/att-files-lawsuit-against-t-mobile-us-ai-based-switching-tool\/\">temporary restraining order<\/a> to prevent T-Mobile from using the price comparison tool to access password-protected software without its permission.
